The Blades played one season in the United States Hockey League in 1976-77. Other teams in the league during 1976-77 were: Green Bay Bobcats, Milwaukee Admirals (now in the International Hockey League), Sioux City Musketeers, Traverse City Bays, and the Waterloo Black Hawks. The Blades won the USHL championship during their one year in the league. Evidently, the Blades experienced enough financial losses and mis-management to cause the franchise to suspend operations after one season.
The USHL began play in 1969-70. In 1977-78, the USHL (with only three teams remaining) played an interlocking schedule with the Midwest Jr. Hockey League. Later, the league became a junior level league rather than a senior level league, and still exists to this day.
